My DD is getting a bitty baby for xmas and I plan to make all the clothing for it. I have all the McCalls, etc. patterns for baby dolls, my problem which size does everyone use. They come in small 12"-14" & medium 16"-18", it seems like I should use the small, I've only used the large for big baby dolls. I just don't want to make a bunch of clothes and they be either to big or small.

Bitty is supposed to be 15" long. I've never really measured her though. Personally, I'd go with the larger size. If they're a little big, they're like handmedowns from her older siblings...like the twins!
Also, I think it would be easier to get on/off for those little fingers if they had more wiggle room in general.
Good luck and post pics. I'm a big time sewer (that spelling always looks wrong..like the stinky sewer), but I have never really had any desire to sew those little clothes. However, your daughter will love that you made them just for her!

Laurie she's getting the dark haired twin girl. I bought it from ebay and probably paid to much but wanted one with hair just not two right now. Are the twins bigger then the molded hair dolls. I don't like the way all the molded hair dolls on ebay looked, their heads were scuffed up and I know Sophia will drag it around.

Morrisey company has patterns specific to Bitty Baby. I have used their patterns with great results. And they are cheaper than commercial patterns.

I have sewn extensively for BB. If using a pre-made pattern, I use the 16-18"...at least in the McCalls and Symplicity patterns. I you already have a bunch of them...you'll be able to mix and match lots of pieces. Like...different bodices and sleeves..ect. You can come up with some great creations.
I have only tried one Morrissey pattern for BB, and liked it. Other times I have used their patterns, they have been way too big. But I am a stickler for fit.
I make most of my own patterns now, but have made some really nice things with the patterns above.
Have fun! I used to give my daughter boxes and boxes of homemade doll clothing for Christmas. It was so much fun...and she loved it.

Thanks ponydreamer, I've got all the mccalls, butterick, simplicity ones and a few vintage ones. Love those 99 cent sales, so I can't justify buying any bitty clothes. Now I'll have to get to sewing. Just need to find a snowsuit pattern or a way to make one.

Mary I've found a few vintage ones I'll have to try. I like some of the AG bitty clothes but I think they're way to costly for such a little girl. I'm going to try adjusting one of the sleeper patterns and make a snowsuit. I've already remade an vintage wooden doll crib and wooden playpen. I will not pay that much for plastic toys. If you make any Mary let me know how they turn out, I'd love to see them.

Can anyone recommend a pretty basic pattern? The ones I saw on Morrissey were adorable but for only 1 outfit. I sew a little and I know my 10 yo, who is learning to sew, would love to practice by making BB clothes. Poor Paul is still in BB Fall Leaf Outfit!
I guess I've always justified buying BB clothes because almost everything so far has been purchased on clearance and the outfits come with shoes, something for Bitty's head, a book and a toy. For the $8 I paid for the Poinsettia Outfit, I really couldn't make anything nearly as nice.
And Mary, I love your new avatar!

Tracy, you might try the sewing for dummies pattern for your DD simplicity sells them. I find most any brand other then vogue are easy. Even if you don't sew much start with something simple pants or jumper. Joanns will have sales and I always get my patterns then you can't beat 99 cents. I like making doll clothes since they don't require buying large amounts of fabric a renament will even do. If you ever need any help just PM me and I'll try and help.
